Kuratau School

OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS (2024)

Enrolment at Kuratau School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are outlined below.  An enrolment scheme helps prevent the school from being overcrowded.

Families who live outside our zone can only attend the school if there is a place available for them. This applies ALSO to new students who live outside our zone but have brothers or sisters already at Kuratau School. However during a ballot these students have priority.

So that effective teaching and learning can continue, the Kuratau School Board will monitor the school's roll closely each term and make a decision about how many places are likely to be available for new students.  The exact number of places will depend on the number of applicants received from students who live within the school's home zone. Positions for 'out of zone' students will be advertised each term for the following term.  Details of ballot dates and application forms are listed below and can also be obtained from the school office.

Parents/Caregivers of students who live within the home zone and intend enrolling their child at any time during the next year should complete our ‘Intention of Enrolment’ form or contact the School Office.  This information assists us in planning appropriately each year.  Please keep us informed of siblings who have not yet started school.

See our ZONE MAP HERE

If you do not live within the home zone specified in our school's enrolment scheme an application for an 'out of zone' enrolment will be subject to the selection procedure outlined in the Education and Training Act 2020.

The Act states that there are six priorities for enrolment.  Priority is given to students who:

  1. Meet the criteria for enrolment in an approved special programme run by the school.  Kuratau School has no such programme.

  2. Meet the criteria of being a sibling of a current student.

  3. Meet the criteria of being a sibling of a former student.

  4. Meet the criteria of being a child of a former student.

  5. Meet the criteria of being children of a board member or board employee

  6. All other students.

Prior to each ballot, the number of places available will be set by the Kuratau School Board and advertised at least one month prior to the ballot.

If the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot.  If a ballot is required at our school, it will be supervised by a Justice of the Peace or a sworn member of the Police.

Parents/Caregivers will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.  If your application has been successful, you will be asked to confirm your acceptance, or rejection, of the offered place within 14 days of the date of the school's letter. If you do not respond within the 14 day period, the place will be offered to the first person on the waiting list established by the ballot.
